OGame is a persistent browser strategy game about building a space empire. You develop planets, research technologies and move fleets in real time. Closing the browser does not pause the universe, so your first useful skill is planning what happens while you are away.
This beginner guide focuses on decisions you can repeat. Rather than prescribing one build order for every server, it shows how to choose the next investment, avoid resource bottlenecks and establish a manageable routine.
Start with the universe, not the building queue
Check the server settings before creating an account. Economy speed, research speed and fleet speeds describe different parts of the experience. Faster production does not necessarily mean you will enjoy the demands of faster hostile flights.
Write down when you can realistically check the game. Choose a universe around that schedule rather than around an ambition to keep up with players who have different availability.
What a good OGame build order should accomplish
A build order is useful when it unlocks the next capability you need. Early priorities normally involve reliable resource production, sufficient energy, storage and the technologies or facilities required for your next goal.
Copying levels from another account can fail when server settings, bonuses or resource shortages differ. Instead, ask what is currently stopping you: production, a missing prerequisite, construction time, transport capacity or the need to protect accumulated resources.
- Choose one near-term objective.
- Read its prerequisites in the technology information.
- Calculate the resources needed for the whole route.
- Check energy and storage before upgrading production.
- Plan what remains exposed before you log out.
Metal, crystal and deuterium are different constraints
Track them separately. A large total resource balance can hide a shortage of the material needed for your next research. Building more units that consume that scarce resource may delay the upgrade you actually wanted.
Once you can transport resources, treat logistics as part of development. A resource pile on the wrong planet is not automatically available for the construction you have planned elsewhere.
Classes and lifeforms are separate systems
OGame offers player classes and a separate lifeform system. Read the bonuses shown by your version before choosing around a guide. A bonus tied to activities you rarely perform may be worth less to you than a smaller benefit you use consistently.
Do not try to optimise every bonus on the first day. Understanding your income, flight timing and exposure gives you a stronger base for later decisions.
Learn fleet safety before building a large fleet
Defence can make an attack less attractive, but it does not make stationed ships invulnerable. Fleetsaving means planning a movement to keep ships away during an absence. The mission type, visibility and return time matter; simply sending the fleet somewhere is not a complete safety strategy.
Before committing ships to an attack, use a suitable combat simulator and read its limitations. Winning a battle and making a profit are separate questions.
A short routine for each session
- Read relevant warnings and incoming movements.
- Check production, energy and storage.
- Choose the next completed objective rather than starting several unrelated projects.
- Review transports and returning fleets.
- Before leaving, check where ships and unspent resources will be.
Adjust the routine to your play style. Its purpose is to reduce forgotten tasks, not to turn the game into a permanent obligation.
Can you play peacefully or alone?
You can focus on economic development, but the normal game remains a multiplayer environment. A peaceful intention is not protection from other players. If you want a strictly single-player experience, do not assume that joining an ordinary OGame universe provides one.
Free access and optional purchases
Gameforge presents OGame as free-to-play and provides optional paid features. You can begin learning without buying anything. If you later decide to spend, choose a budget and a purpose before considering an offer.
Official starting points
Use Gameforge’s OGame overview, the official lobby and the English community forum. Check dates on guides, especially when they discuss exact values. Your first milestone is a routine you understand and can maintain, not a particular ranking position.
